JUBILEE YEAR IN REVIEW

From the time Sr. Pat Duffy spent a month with us in October 2004 we have been celebrating our jubilee.

First was the spiritual preparation with the mission Sr. Pat conducted for us. Then small groups gathered to plan the events for our jubilee.

We began and ended celebrating at Mass followed by our fabulous pot luck dinner. We have our own jubilee song, thanks to Deacon Jim Murano. Our family photo journal gave us memories of our parishioners. Our retreat in September 2006 led by Fr Jude Siciliano continued our spiritual journey.

In addition to our usual annual events, our Knights of Columbus honored our seniors, many of whom have been here from the beginning. Our school Parents Association hosted a 50’s Dance remembering what it was like when our parish began.

A snow storm in February cancelled our event for the feast of St Valentine and Ss. Cyril and Methodius, and poor weather limited our 40 hours devotion to about 30 hours.

The summer celebrations included the Long Island Ducks game, prayer on the lawn, a great boat trip to Manhattan, and our parish picnic.

Throughout the year we welcomed back many of the priests who have served here over the years as they came to preside at Sunday Mass. Our sisters were honored in September, followed by a mission with Sr. Pat Duffy where we renewed our Baptismal call.

The memories of the 50 years were compiled into a video viewed at our pot luck supper and a picture display at our gala dance at the Crest Hollow. Memories were made in Italy as our pilgrims traveled to Rome, Florence and Assisi.

Our jubilee year was spent remembering the past, celebrating in the present and now securing our future. At our ministry Expo close to 50 active ministries filled the auditorium with displays. We had about 250 parishioners stop by and more than 50 of them expressed interest by signing up.

It was a year filled with memories on which we continue to build the Kingdom as the Family of the Eucharist.
